NO PLANS TO EXPAND LIGNITE MINING

GERMANY Vattenfall leaves any decision to invest in open-cast mine extensions in Jänschwalde as well as in new lignite production capacity to the new owner.

During the past weekend German media reported that Vattenfall has decided to invest in the Jänschwalde area.

Ivo Banek, Head of Communications at Vattenfall, says:
“We have made no such decision. The company will not invest in neither open-caste mine extensions, nor in new lignite capacity. We leave such a decision to the new owner of the lignite business who should have the opportunity to evaluate the framework conditions independently.”
