UK tests electric highways

England will begin testing an electric highway that will allow owners of electric and hybrid cars to charge while they’re on the go. These trials are the first of their kind in the country and could help boost the uptake of electric cars.

Highways England has already completed a feasibility test into the technology. Later this year, it will build an off-road testing site where electric and hybrid cars will be fitted with wireless technology and an unspecified equipment will be installed underneath the road. The cars will then be able to recharge their electric batteries along the road surface.
