Danmark News from Vattenfall is onsite in Aalborg, Denmark,  where the substation to the Sandbank offshore wind farm is being built. But what is a substation?

Sandbank facts
The Sandbank offshore wind farm, a joint-venture between Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München, is located 110 km off the German North Sea coast, 90 km west of the island Sylt.

When completed in 2017, the Sandbank wind farm will have 72 Siemens wind turbines in the 4 MW class and an offshore substation.

The 288 MW wind farm will be able to supply more than 400,000 households with renewable electricity.
